I've done it. All my worldly possessions were in storage (well, except those stashed with friends across Melbourne), and I had no job or significant other to tie me to the place right now. Having returned from three months in Japan and had a chance to give squeezes to my loved ones, I decided that I'd never have as little to hold me back from a stint overseas as this.
So, to Edinburgh: 1) English-speaking (after a fashion) 2) Cheap flights to Europe 3) Reputedly beautiful and easy to live in 4) Wouldn't make me another Aussie in London 5) A likely place to find work, earn pounds, and not too expensive in the meantime
So, suddenly, I'm here! Got my Western Europe Lonely Planet to read, and the nearby world to explore :)
Keep in touch while I travel, with my posts of noteworthy happenings. When you've had a read, be sure to leave a comment so I know you've been by!

Status: Where am I now?
Sometimes this blog lags a bit - all the posts need to be consecutive. But this status, I can update quickly.
Currently: I finally landed a job doing business analysis work in mid-December in Edinburgh. I'm enjoying the international set of friends I've landed here, and looking for places in the UK and Europe to travel to on the weekends.
Recently: * March to June Japan's done, Melbourne's been and gone. * August Edinburgh Festival * September south of France * October Spanish language in Spain * November unsuccessful job hunting in Edinburgh
The Simple Raifu was...
The Simple Raifu was originally created to let folks back home keep in touch with my travels and farmhand work through Japan over a three month stay in 2007.
The Japanese blog has posts about Engrish, Japanese fancy fashion, nature and architecture, interesting elements of Japanese culture, and introduced the people I met on my travels. Hope there's something there to tickle your fancy!
